Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose: To confirm the changes in amount of refractive error according to generation from 5 to 50 years.
Methods: Data of refractive error for 162.494 subjects (male 50,453, female 112,041) were obtained in the optical shop to visit for correction of refractive errors in Chungju and Chunan restricts in 1987 to 2012. We obtained refractive data at 5 optical shops in Chungju, and at 2 optical shops in Chunan, we have analyzed refractive data, exclude the personal informations. The age of subject was calculated with year of visiting the optical shop and year of birth. We had to take changes in the refractive errors into consideration when we classified the age groups. We compared the amount of refractive error in the same age group according to visited year. Regression analysis also was performed to determine whether relevant year and age variables affecting refractive error. To confirm changes in environmental factors, survey was conducted on some sample population included subjects of present study.
Results: 6 age groups were showed significant the amount of mean refractive error, depending on the visited year. It was showed when the visited year is recently, the refractive error was increase negatively. The regression analysis, to determine the amount of mean refractive error for all age groups, showed a statistically significant visited year. The answers related to near works was significantly higher in 20 group more than in 30 group in the questionare.
Conclusions: The amount of mean refractive error in the same age group became different depending on the generation by environmental factors. Among 5-50 year old optical shop visitors, the amount of mean refractive error was increase negatively for all age group.
